Methodology
These lists are a starting point for comparing residential electricians and siding contractors. A rank reflects dated Google reviews under the formula below. It does not certify workmanship or licensing.
1. Candidate discovery and service fit
The starting pool comes from trade-and-city Google listing searches collected through a commercial data provider on Oct 13, 2026 and de-duplicated by place ID. Search coverage is incomplete; it is not a census of every contractor. Imported search categories are discovery clues, not verified Google primary categories.
Before publication, a dated company source must support residential service in the Kansas City market. Electrical profiles require on-site residential electrical contracting; siding profiles require residential siding installation, replacement or repair. Qualified multi-trade companies are eligible under identical rules. Suppliers, referral-only platforms, remote-advice services and specialty-only electrical services such as solar-only, generator-only or minor handyman tasks are outside these general lists.
Records with unresolved identity, locality, website or service evidence stay in the research queue and are omitted from the public edition. That means evidence is incomplete, not that the business does not provide the service. A listing address places a company in a city; it does not establish its complete service area.
2. Ranking eligibility
A published company ranks when it has a sourced residential service fit, a company website, at least 10 Google reviews and a 4.0 rating in the dated snapshot. A company below a numeric floor can have a service-fit profile without a rank. Each profile states the reason. A correction can establish eligibility at any time; requests and business relationships do not waive a rule.
Google ratings cover the whole business. They can include roofing, plumbing, HVAC, commercial work or other services. We do not know the service mix and do not represent the figures as electrical-only or siding-only reviews.
3. Local Score
Local Score = (15 × 4.5 + reviews × rating) ÷ (15 + reviews)
This blends the observed rating with a fixed editorial prior of 15 reviews at 4.5 stars. The prior is not a measured local average. A 5.0 rating on 12 reviews scores 4.72; 4.9 on 1,000 scores 4.89. Scores are displayed to two decimals; ordering uses the full calculation. Ties use review count, then company name, then place ID.
No license, manufacturer-directory, sponsorship or business-relationship bonuses are awarded. This replaces the earlier prototype's credential credits, whose evidence coverage and status handling were inconsistent. No points are deducted for an unknown credential. All companies in both trades use this formula.
4. Sources, dates and limitations
Google figures retain their original Oct 13, 2026 observation date. Service-source checks carry separate dates and links on each company profile. A company statement establishes advertised service, not independently inspected capability. Current license status, insurance, manufacturer tiers and complaint history are not certified by this edition. Confirm them directly before hiring.
We track distinct Google place IDs separately. Branches of one brand may have different review figures and scope. We do not transfer license claims between branches merely because they share a website domain. Company-source access limits and narrower scopes are stated on profiles.
5. City lists
A city list exists only where at least three ranked companies have a dated Google listing address in that city. The order is within the city; profiles show the metro rank. City lists do not imply that every listed contractor serves every nearby address.
6. Commercial relationships
The publisher may have business relationships with companies that appear here. Those companies remain eligible under the same evidence requirements, review floors, formula and correction process as everyone else. A relationship does not buy inclusion, a higher position or removal. We do not sell sponsored ranking positions. Any paid placement outside the rankings must be clearly labeled and kept separate from the computed order.
Company links go directly to company websites or Google listings. The site has no contractor lead form or tracking phone number. The listing badge is free and does not establish an endorsement or inspection.
7. Updates and corrections
This is a dated edition, not a live feed. Ratings can change after collection. Refreshes and substantive corrections are recorded in the edition log. A monthly refresh is a goal, not a promise; use the displayed dates to judge freshness. Report a missing company, source problem or factual error through the corrections page.
